When a stray 3-month-old puppy was found on a mountain, he had never had contact with humans. Rescuers worried that if the timid dog was treated the wrong way, he would be facing a life of misery and constant fear of everything. But then something incredible happened…
Petri was found on a mountain near a busy Athens suburb. The stray puppy had been born from a stray mom and left to survive on his own. He had never had contact with humans ever.
But he had contracted mange and completely lost all his fur. Pink and caked with blisters and scabs, Petri was rescued and brought to the vet.
Despite all the love and attention he was getting, the 3-month-old puppy remained fearful and sad. “The life of those stray dogs roaming the mountains is the life of a wild animal,” explains Orphan GR. “Yes, they are dogs, they are man’s best friends, but they don’t know it and trying to force them to realize who they are by smothering them will result to having a sad, frightened animal not knowing why it is there, what all this attention means and what its purpose in life could possibly be.”
“If Petri was treated the wrong way, he would be facing a life of misery and constant fear of everything. He was afraid of everything because he had know nothing, and he needed to be introduced to the world again, from the beginning and in the right way,” they write.
After a month at the vet he went into foster care and that’s where the timid puppy slowly and surely was given freedom to come out of his shell.
Watch as Petri makes an amazing recovery! Thanks to his caring foster mom and supervision of a dog trainer, Petri has overcome his fears and today he is a happy, social puppy with a forever home!
